气象： 
气温：年平均气温10.4℃。七月份气温最高，月平均为23.5℃。一月份气温最低，月平均零下5.9℃。  
风：全年以北风及西北风最强，次数最多。春、夏季以南风居多，冬季以北风及西北风最强。  
降水：年平均降水量为600毫米。七、八、九三个月雨量集中，可占全年的三分之二。  
雾：每年入春以后，雾逐渐增加，多发生在早晨。七月份雾略多，对船舶出入影响不大。九月份以后很少有雾。  
冰：本港每年冰冻期为一月初至三月初，港区有的年份可有部分结冰，约为六十天，结冰厚度为五至二十毫米，对船舶航行靠泊无影响。   
水文： 
潮汐：潮汐属半日潮混合型。历年最高潮位4.6米，最低潮位0.66米，平均潮位2.14米，平均海面1.63米。  
潮流：大连湾和大窑湾的海流基本属于潮汐引起的往复流，湾口流速分别为0.64～0.32米/秒和0.57～0.29米/秒。最大潮差2.9米,最小潮差2.3米。  
  
交通状况  
公路铁路： 
大连港交通十分方便，哈大铁路正线与东北地区发达的铁路网连接。公路有全国最长的沈大高速公路与东北地区的国家公路网相连接。经东北铁路网和公路网，大连港还联接着俄罗斯和朝鲜，可通过西伯利亚大铁路，成为欧亚大陆桥的起点。  
航空运输： 
大连民航具备国际机场使用标准，现有以大型班机为主的国际、国内航线25条，国内可通航的城市31个，国际航线可达日本、朝鲜、美国、加拿大、欧洲和独联体等国家和地区。

管道运输有输送大庆原油的专用管线，直通大连港鲇鱼湾码头。  
海上运输已开辟到香港、日本、东南亚、欧洲等地的国际集装箱航线8条，国内客运航线8条，以及不定期的旅游船航线。  
陆海空多种运输方式组成的主体运输网为大连港的发展提供了优越的集疏运条件。  
   目前，大连港与140多个国家和地区有贸易运输往来，与日本的北九州港、横滨港、伏木、富山港、美国的奥克兰港、休士顿港、加拿大的温哥华港结为友好港。  
　  
经济腹地  
  大连港依托大连市，经济腹地包括黑龙江省、吉林省、辽宁省及内蒙古自治区东部的呼伦贝尔盟、哲里木盟和赤峰市。  
  腹地通过港口进出的主要货种有石油、粮食、杂货（包括集装箱），分别占总吞吐量的47.4％，16.1％和16％。金属矿石、钢铁、煤炭、化肥和非金属矿石等每年吞吐量分别为100～250万吨。  
  目前黑龙江省的海运物资大约95％通过大连港，吉林省的海运物资约有67％通过大连港，内蒙古东部的海运物资中约有70％通过大连港。辽宁省除部分物资通过营口、丹东、锦州、锦西等中小港口运输以外，其余地区的海运物资基本上在大连港中转。  
  大连市是一座依山傍海、风景优美的滨海城市，市内有老虎滩公园、中山公园、动物园，还有棒棰岛、旅顺口、碧海山庄、黑石礁等著名景区，郊区有夏家河子、金石滩等海水浴场，是我国北方旅游胜地之一。每至盛夏，大量中外游客来此避暑、旅游和疗养。 
  
  
港区分布及泊位情况  
  大连港是一个天然深水良港，也是我国最大的散粮、石油进出口及对外贸易的口岸。具备装卸贮存、中转换装、多式联运、运输代理、通讯信息和生活服务等6项功能，在东北港口群体中处于枢纽和主导的地位。  
大连港的水域范围，自大连湾南岸的黄白嘴灯塔起，经大三山岛、险礁灯桩至沙鱼嘴连线内的海域，其面积共346平方公里。  
  其中，大连湾水域186平方公里，大窑湾水域33平方公里，小窑湾水域17平方公里，湾外水域110平方公里，港区自然岸线长度为145公里。大连港陆域面积共8.4平方公里。  
  拥有集装箱、原油、成品油、粮食、煤炭、散矿、化工产品、客货滚装等近80个现代化专业泊位，其中万吨级以上泊位40个  
港务公司： 大连港务局设有8个港务公司，除黑嘴子外，其余皆可共外轮靠泊。其经营范围分述如下：  
（1）大港港务公司：内贸集装箱、散化肥、散杂货、滚装和客运。  
（2）寺儿沟港务公司：经营成品油，辽河、渤海、笔架山原油，是东北地区液体化工品进出口转运的专业化港区。  
（3）黑嘴子港务公司：以接卸地方小型船舶为主，同时经营水产品市场。  
（4）香炉礁港务公司：以钢材、木材、大件中转运输为主，还经营客货滚装运输.

大港区航道底为淤泥，设计水深为负10米，航道宽度270米，长度2500米，吃水在10米左右的船舶可随时进出。

新港原油码头航道为天然航道，水深负17.5米，宽300米。  
大窑湾航道为天然航道，水深负10.7米，宽210米。  
大连湾码头航道为天然航道，水深负9.5米，宽100米。  
寺儿沟一栈桥航道负9.5米，宽120米。  
寺儿沟二栈桥航道负9.5米，宽120米。

Port of Dalian was founded in 1899.It is located at the central point of West Pacific, center of the arising Northeast Asian economic circle, the gateway for this region to the Pacific and the rest of the world. With broad space and deep water, free of ice and silt, the Port has superior natural conditions, the most convenient seaport for the transshipment of cargoes between Far East, South Asia, North America and Europe. It covers a water area of 346 km2 and a land area of nearly 15 km2.There are 160 km of specialized railway lines,300,000 m2 of warehouses,1.8million km2 of stacking yards and over 1,000 units of different types of loading and discharging machinery and equipment. It operates nearly 80 specialized modern berths for containers, crude oil, product oils, grains, coal, bulk minerals, chemical products and passenger/cargo roll/roll transportation, among which 40 berths are over 10,000 dwt. Port of Dalian has the Nation's largest 300,000 dwt crude oil terminal and 300,000 dwt ore terminal. Dayao Bay Port is one of the four international deep-water transshipment ports designated by the Central Government as key projects. Dalian Port Corporation Limited has established trading and shipping ties with more than 300 ports in 160 countries and regions of the world. With 68 international and domestic container shipping routes, Dalian is China's second largest container transshipment port, the largest and fastest growing port for sea-rail through transportation, the largest seaport for passengers and one of the world ports handling more than 100 million tons of cargoes annually.

The annual average is 10.4℃. The highest is in July with an average of 23.5℃ and the lowest is in January with an average of-5.9℃.
B. Wind
North and northwest winds are the strongest and most frequent ones whole year round. South winds prevail in spring and summer while north and northwest winds in winter.
C. Precipitation
The annual average is 600mm.Rain centralizes in July, August and September, taking up about two-third of the total amount of the year.
D. Fog
Foggy days increase from the start of spring and disappear after September. Fog occurs frequently in the mornings. Long-lasting foggy weather in July may slightly affect the in-and-out of vessels.
E. Ice
Freezing period of the port area is between early January and March, lasting about 60 days. The port may be partially frozen with ice of 5 to 20 mm thick in a certain year, without influence on navigation and mooring.

The tide is semi-diurnal style. The maximum tide level reaches 4.6m and the minimum is 0.66m
while he average is 2.14m.The average sea level is 1.63.

The fairway to Dagang Teminal is silt-bottomed, designed with a depth of -10m,a width of 270m and a length of 2.500m.Vessels of 10m draft may enter and leave at any time.
The fairway to Xianglujiao Terminal is -8m in depth and 100m in width.
The fairway to Ganjingzi Terminal is silt-bottomed, designed with a depth of -9m.
The fairway to New Harbor crude oil terminal is a natural one with a depth of -17.5m and a width of 300m.
The fairway to Dayao Bay Terminal is a natural one with a depth of -14.9m and a width of 210m.
The fairway to Heshangdao Terminal is a natural one with a depth of -13.4m but shallow point 11.8m and a width of 100m.
The fairway to Siergou Terminal Jetty | is -9.5m in depth and120m in width.

There are nine breakwaters and the total length is 7,000m. The Dagang Terminal is surrounded by breakwaters on the east, west and north sides with the East Entrance 360m wide. Foreign vessels enter and leave the port mainly through the East Entrance.

The area was occupied by the British in 1858 and returned to China in the 1880s. China's Qing government built fortifications and mining camps on the northern coast of the Dalian Gulf in 1880. The Japanese occupied the area during the first Sino-Japanese War in 1895. 

In 1898, Russia leased the peninsula and laid out a modern city called Dalny, which became Russia's main ice-free port in Asia and headquarters for their Pacific Navy. Russia spent more than 10 million rubles building the city, dredging the harbor, and constructing piers and wharves. 

Dalny was the major battlefield in the Russo-Japanese War of 1905. Due to bad military decisions, the Russians were forced to cede the area to Japan, which then enlarged and modernized the area and divided it into two cities: Dairen (Dalian) and Ryojun (Lushun). Under the Japanese, the area became an important industrial center. By 1941, the Japanese were building ships of 8 thousand tons in the Port of Dalian, and they established an important chemical industry there. The Japanese also installed a steelworks, but it was not productive until the Chinese expanded it in the mid-1950s.

After Japan surrendered in 1945, Dalian was governed by the Soviets. They continued to govern until 1950. During the five-year period, Soviet and Chinese Communists worked together to develop the city and the port. In 1950, the Soviets gave the Port of Dalian to China, who transformed it into an important shipbuilding center. In the 1990s, China's current Minister of Commerce, Bo Xilai, was mayor of Dalian and provincial party official. As mayor, he created many beautiful parks and preserved much of the city's Japanese and Russian architecture. 

In 1984, China designated the Port of Dalian (called Lu-ta by the Chinese) an open city and invited foreign investment. Today's city supports a variety of manufacturing including food processing, oil refining, papermaking, cotton textiles, and fertilizer. The Port of Dalian is also well known for heavy industry. It's an important deep water oil and fishing port that supports engineering and marine transport colleges.

The Port of Dalian is important to China's trade economy. It offers generous space, deep water, and year-round ice-free navigation. It's a convenient port for the movement of cargo between South Asia, the Far East, Europe, and North America. It has almost 100 miles of specialized rail lines, 74 acres of warehouses, and 1.8 million square kilometers of stacking yards. The Port of Dalian boasts China's biggest crude oil and ore terminals. 

The Port of Dalian handles over 100 million tons of cargo each year. It is China's second largest container port and its fastest-growing sea-rail port. The Port of Dalian is also the country's busiest passenger seaport, with over five million passengers passing through the port each year. The Port of Dalian's Container Terminal Co. Ltd. handles foreign trade containers, with capacity for 2.1 million TEUs a year. The terminal has received many awards for effective operations. The Port of Dalian's Dagang China Shipping Container Terminal handles domestic trade containers. 

The Port of Dalian is the Country's major seaport exporting agricultural products from northeast China and Inner Mongolia. The Dayao Bay Terminal contains two berths for bulk grain export and import, with an annual capacity for throughput of 5 million tons. 

Further, the Port of Dalian is the major import port for ores to northeast China. The ore terminal is the largest, most modern ore terminal in China and has capacity for over 2 million tons of ore, which will be expanded to 6 million tons. The ore terminal has a capacity for throughput of 20 million tons.
