Port Everglades is currently holding a world record for hosting the most number of cruise passengers, 44,108, in only one day. On an annual basis, up to 4 million cruise passengers who pass through the port. That makes Port Everglades among the globe's busiest and most sought-after cruise departure ports.
Port Everglades is located in Broward County in Florida. Geographically, the ports area is within three different municipalities of Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach and Hollywood. The United States acknowledges Port Everglades as one of its most advanced and busiest container ports, having 5,400 vessels call within a single year. The terminal also has become a major storage facility and distribution hub of petroleum. The port is also a US Navy liberty port.
In history, Port Everglades is home to Regal Empress, North America's oldest passenger ship in operations up to now. In 1968 to 1970, the port became a dock home of the museum ship RMS Queen Elizabeth.
The world's largest ever passenger vessel, the Genesis Class, is set to use Port Everglade as its homeport upon its start of operations in 2009.
